TeachWriteNow is a multiplayer, cooperatively-structured LLC, working towards the goal of collective worker-ownership.
Our platform seeks to amplify the writing of fabulous diverse writers and educators in order to reduce barriers to inclusion in curriculum. bring fabulous contemporary and historically underrepresented writing into classrooms in creative ways. We primarily focus on creating curriculum based on the work of voices from the global majority--including (but not limited to) voices of culture, or voices speaking about their a-culturation, voices of young folks, Black folks, and Indigenous folks, LBGTQIA2S+ folks. This goes beyond representation--which is unbelievably important for young people as they imagine their future selves, and learn what is in the realm of possible--to recognizing and celebrating greatness that has been historically minimized, to the detriment of all students and teachers.
We are always seeking new ways to engage our students and our own creativity. We are perpetually growing and learning. Our goals include transparency, a model that supports collaboration, and a non-hierarchical structure, and to always put our money where mouth is. We strive to be equitable and inclusive at all levels.
To join the TeachWriteNow team, you enter into our cooperative. We do not have a buy-in requirement at this time. We do require a commitment to our mission, and a dedication of your time, brilliance, and honesty. In return, we hope to support you in your growth as an educator, human, creative, and community member.
We are all part-timers (some of us working multiple other jobs, #artistlife). Those who dedicate time to the creation of our curriculum split all surplus income (whenever applicable) according to the percentage of their labor to the total hours of labor done by everyone involved.
Regardless of the number of ownership shares, each member of the cooperative gets one vote. You must be a contributing creator or producer to be part of the cooperative to have a say in how it is run, unless you are hired as a consultant for that purpose, as agreed upon by the members.

Financials:
All income received is split equitably among the authors, teachers, and designers that create the product in question.
Our current agreed upon ratio for every dollar that comes in is 70% for Creators, 30% for Producers.
For those on the teacher team: We track all work hours, and calculate them out at $35 an hour for work that requires no preparation, and $50 an hour for meetings and classes that require preparation. (These rates are based on appropriate living wages, and can be adjusted with consensus from all affected parties). Any unpaid part of the hourly work is transferred into ownership shares of the cooperative, paid out upon agreement between the collective.
If you are a member of the teacher team, and want to know what your current member balance is, email leah at teachwritenow dot com. |
For Contributors to Lesson Plans: Because many of our lesson plans are set at five dollars or less to remain affordable and accessible for teachers, we pay out to our authors every time the monetary value reaches $25 dollars to minimize small-scale deposits.
If you are an author, and are wondering how many lessons of yours have sold, or what your current balance is, you have a right to know! Please send an email to leah at teachwritenow dot com. |
